The Fantastic Four
Trelleborg Sweden saw Quest Taekwondo's Junior and Senior Athletes make a stunning start to 2013. Kieran Young, Natasha Burdock, Harriet Ackeroyd and Jacob Barnett all gave excellent performances.
Kieran in the Male -54Kg category went behind early in the match giving away a considerable height disadvantage. Battling on Kieran relentlessly attacked his opponent attempting to bridge the gap, taking point after point but just missing out in the end.
Harriet continues to develop her Olympic Taekwondo skills after years of successful non-WTF competition. Her first match was an exciting closely contested game with a Scottish player which went to the wire but Harriet won through. Her semi-final match was tougher and she was narrowly defeated. This was a stunning debut in Olympic style international competition.
Natasha Burdoch continues to demonstrate her developing skills and ring craft. She had three excellently contested matches to make it to the final. In it she competed against a strong German player who she took to Golden point, the Protector Scoring System scoring the German girl first as what seemed like simultaneous kicks were thrown. This was a very impressive day for Natasha impressing GB coaches who were also at the event.
Jake Barnett was the the sole Quest Athlete on the second day of competition. Jake's first match was against a strong Swedish athlete with the home town advantage. Jake swept him aside with impressive head kick and an aggressive style. The next opponent was equally swept aside with Jake making it to the Semi final against a strong Norwegian. Though Jake moved well the Nordic Champion was a little too strong and experienced for Jake or the Thai athlete he met in the final. Again Jake made a really good impression on the GB contingent.
This team are developing into leading international athletes and we hope its not long before we see them wearing the colours of GB.
