Last weekend Quest Taekwondo hosted a seminar conducted by Jake Barnett. Jake, aged 17, is a Quest Taekwondo student and a member of the GB Junior Development Team.
After successfully competing at A-Class sparring tournaments across the continent, starting in Sweden (February), Germany (March), Belgium (April), Spain (April) and Austria (June) he has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships in Portugal later this month.
Jacob's main challenge in achieving this has been finance, as these trips have been self-funded by Jacob and his family. To help raise much needed funds, Jake presented an inspiring and informative seminar which was enjoyed by students of all ages and levels, many of whom aspire to follow in his footsteps. The focus was on sparring, but also on perfecting essential training drills and techniques. This was followed by a question and answer session, with Jake answering questions on his fitness and training regime, pre-competition diet, preparation and warm up, and best experiences to date.
According to Rick Simpson, "Jacob has worked so hard to get to where he is. He is an inspiration to all teenagers who want to get something in life and Jacob has really committed himself to this. It's not just the training commitment he has put in for himself, but how he comes across too - all the boys in the club look up to Jacob and he sets a really good example to them - training hard, thinking positively, taking on feedback, improving all the time, helping others, he's just a pleasure to work with".
