Mike McKenzie has been named South Yorkshire Sport Coach of the Year 2013. The South Yorkshire Sport Coaching Awards 2013 reward and celebrate the achievements of local coaches across South Yorkshire, with the winner being put forward to the Annual National Sports Coach UK Awards in November 2013.
Key to Mike's success with the awards were his years of dedication to the sport of Taekwondo, with 2013 marking Quest's 25th anniversary, along with his dedicated work managing the 2012 Olympic Games Taekwondo event and ensuring that the Olympic legacy continues. The judges were also impressed by the level of support he received from members of the club, with students, other instructors and parents all submitting their views.
The trophy was awarded at Penistone Grammar School Sports Centre by Michelle Hayden, Coaching Development Manager at South Yorkshire Sport. Michelle said: “I felt honoured to present Mike with the South Yorkshire Sport Coach of The Year Award 2013. I never anticipated we’d find such a dedicated coach across all ability levels. Mike truly is an inspiration for others to get involved in coaching, volunteering and participating in sport."
