Quest Taekwondo Community Games

Last Saturday Quest Taekwondo put on a Community Games event at the local Penistone Grammar School Sports Facility.  The aim of the Community Games is to provide an opportunity for clubs and organisations to bring their community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by London 2012.

Anyone can participate in Taekwondo, and participating on the Quest Taekwondo Community Games day were our youngest Monstars aged 4 years old, older children, teenagers, parents, and other adults up to the age of 50 years old.  Our youngest 4 and 5 year old Monstars demonstrated just how far they had come in such a short time.  Their focus and skills displayed on the day was a credit to them, and we’re sure our audience were impressed with their performance.  Our Team Players showed off their sparring skills to inspire both our younger members and potential new members.  The development and progression from Monstar to Cadet, Junior and then adult Black Belt was clearly demonstrated, and our youngest members were clearly inspired, and we hope that others will be inspired to take up the sport, whatever their age or ability.

The session ended celebrating the achievements of our youngest members, who received their belts and certificates from their last grading exam in an Olympic-Style Closing Ceremony.  Presiding over the Closing Ceremony were Mike McKenzie, Manager for the 2012 Olympic Taekwondo event, and Karen Moody, a 2012 Olympic Games Maker.   We hope that the event goes some way to ensuring that the Spirit of Olympic Legacy lives on in Penistone, the whole of South Yorkshire, and the UK.
